DETAIL oriented, EFFICIENT structural solutions for residential and small-scale commercial projects with a PERSONAL touch.

In 1980s Yugoslavia, Mladen, through his side venture Kisin Engineering, designed residential projects with reinforced concrete frames, clay tile infill walls, and timber-framed roofs.

Business card from the original Kisin Engineering. The inspiration for the modern Kisin Engineering logo is taken from the original that Mladen drew himself

About

Past

In 1979, Mladen Kisin earned a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Sarajevo, specializing in Structures. Following graduation, he continued as a teacher for two years. Embarking on his professional journey at a major construction firm in Doboj, Former Yugoslavia, Mladen ascended from Project Manager to Department Head and ultimately General Manager. Under his leadership, the company flourished, expanding to over 600 employees with dozens of major projects being executed simultaneously throughout the region.

In 1983, he established Kisin Engineering as a side venture, concentrating on residential and commercial projects, including concrete slabs, footings, retail spaces, distribution centers, and project management.

He was known in the region as someone who worked hard to develop and maintain strong relationships with his clients and peers within the construction industry. Unfortunately, the civil unrest of the 1990’s in the Balkan region forced Mladen to cease operations of his company as he decided to immigrate his young family to Saskatchewan in 1993.

Upon immigrating to Canada, Mladen initially worked as a laborer on the production floor of a local roof truss plant. Despite his Engineering degree not being recognized locally, he steadily advanced from Truss Designer to Production Manager and ultimately Technical Services Manager. He subsequently assumed the role of General Manager at another local truss plant before becoming the Director of Marketing and Business Development at Penn Truss Manufacturing. Mladen finally retired at the end of June 2024 and now enjoys spending time with his grandchildren

With over three decades of experience in the wood truss industry, Mladen possesses extensive knowledge of the local residential and light commercial construction sector. Proudly witnessing the revival of Kisin Engineering Inc., he actively contributes his expertise to support his son's endeavor.

Present

In 2022, Aleksandar (Sasha) Kisin founded Kisin Engineering Inc. as a tribute to his father's 1980s company in Former Yugoslavia. A 2011 Civil Engineering graduate from the University of Saskatchewan, Sasha furthered his education with a Master's degree in 2014, focusing on innovative techniques for non-contact lap splices in concrete block construction.

During his studies, he worked at Nufab Building Products as a roof Truss Designer in the summer, gaining valuable insights into local construction practices and wood product structural design. Post-graduation, he served as a Design Engineer for the Canada Masonry Design Centre and the Saskatchewan Masonry Institute. Sasha's diverse career also includes contract positions at the University of Saskatchewan, where he is involved in various Civil Engineering courses as a sessional lecturer.

Kisin Engineering embodies a lifelong aspiration, driven by the primary goal of cultivating enduring client relationships and aiding in the realization of their objectives through the delivery of efficient and secure structural engineering services.
